Introduction

The eBay Promoted Listing Calculator helps eBay sellers quantify ad rate impact on contribution margin before a listing goes live. Marketplace pricing decisions fail when fees are treated as a vague “about 13%” guess. This tool replaces that guess with structured inputs, JSON-based rate tables, and transparent outputs you can save or export.

Whether you sell apparel, electronics, collectibles, or home goods, the same discipline applies: enter realistic sold prices, true product cost, and shipping reality, then judge the deal by net profit and margin—not by gross sale price.

How it works

Select your country to load the matching fee schedule. Choose a store plan and category so the correct final value fee percentage applies. Enter selling price, item cost, shipping charged, shipping cost, quantity, promoted listing rate, tax/VAT, discounts, and optional international or below-standard flags. The engine computes fee components and profitability metrics in your browser.

Because rates live in JSON, updating a published eBay schedule is a data change rather than a code rewrite. That keeps the calculator maintainable for Cloudflare Pages deployments with zero build tooling.

Formula explanation

Revenue is modeled as (selling price − coupon discount + shipping charged) × quantity. The final value fee base starts from that merchandise total and may include tax when enabled. Final value fee equals the category/store percentage on amounts up to the plan threshold, plus a reduced high-value rate above the threshold when applicable. A per-order fee is added per unit/order rules from the schedule. Promoted listing fee equals merchandise total × ad rate. International fee equals fee base × international percentage when enabled. Net profit equals revenue − total eBay fees − shipping cost × quantity − item cost × quantity. ROI equals net profit ÷ (item cost + shipping cost) when investment is positive. Margin equals net profit ÷ revenue.

  5. Enter shipping charged to buyers and your label cost.
  6. Add promoted listing %, tax/VAT, and quantity as needed.

  8. Review net profit, ROI, margin, and charts.
  9. Save or export the scenario you want to keep.

Examples

Example 1: A $79.99 US electronics sale with $9.99 shipping charged, $8.20 label cost, and $42 item cost. With a standard no-store rate near 12.9–13.6% depending on category mapping, total fees often land near $12–$13 before ads. Net profit clarifies whether the SKU beats your hourly target.

Example 2: A £28 UK clothing sale with free shipping, £4.90 postage cost, and £9 cost of goods. Even with a modest FVF, free shipping can erase margin if the item price was not raised to compensate. Run both free and charged-shipping scenarios.

Example 3: A multi-quantity order of 3 units at $24 each with 5% promoted listings. Quantity scales revenue and fees; per-order treatment and ad fees can change the story versus three separate orders.
